Tilikum Crossing Multi-use Pathway Special Event Permit

Tilikum Crossing, Bridge of the People, is a cable-stayed bridge stretching nearly 1,720 feet across the Willamette River. Tilikum Crossing provides stunning views of the river, bridges and skyline in Portland’s City Center. The bridge carries MAX Light Rail trains, Portland Streetcars, buses, cyclists and pedestrians across the river — but no private vehicles — making it the first of its kind in the U.S.

There are two multi-use, 14-foot-wide pathways on Tilikum Crossing — one on the north side and one on the south side. Each contains a bicycle lane and a pedestrian lane, as well as two viewpoints near the bridge towers. We may allow special event use of one pathway, as long as the other remains open for public use and a special event permit is obtained.

Since Tilikum Crossing is primarily a transit bridge, providing a vital connection to jobs, schools, community services and events in Downtown Portland, we do not allow any special event use to disrupt TriMet MAX, bus or Portland Streetcar services, and no access is allowed to the transit trackway and travel lanes.
